C. S. Jonker, P. E. Scholtz

Abstract

If human resources in the future South-African society are to be developed and utilised to the maximum it is crucial for such services to address the career counselling needs not only of the privileged, but also the disadvantaged sections of the population. The objective of this study was to develop a career planning programme and to determine the effect on school leavers from a previous deprived community. A Solomon four-group research design was selected for this investigation. A total of 48 school leavers participated in the study. The results indicated that the school leavers who participated in the programme had significantly better scores compared to the school leavers who did not participate. The programme thus resulted in better self-knowledge, career knowledge and commitment to the career planning process.

Opsomming
